The committees are a great chance to have a positive effect on the company culture and to improve people’s working days. It also adds some more variety to the work I do on a daily basis. Each group has a different set of responsibilities, though issues and ideas do sometimes overlap.
When it was announced that the company was investing in training in coaching skills, I was really quite excited about taking part in it. I confess that I had only a vague idea of what coaching might be — something about inspiring people to achieve their full potential — and no idea about how to go about it.
Up until August 2014, I was a research scientist, working in a laboratory and studying the molecular mechanisms underlying cell growth and division – a career that my 18 years of education and training had perfectly prepared me for. I’m now a project leader at a publishing company, editing, proofreading and writing a variety of materials, and helping to train other members of staff – a career that I have no formal qualifications or training for. How did all this come about in the last four and a half years?
